Obituary of Dorothy Buckelew

Funeral services for Dorothy Fay Buckelew, 79, Overton, are scheduled for 10:00 am, Saturday, August 19, at the Bible Baptist Church, Overton, with the Reverend Ronnie Glover officiating. Burial will be in the Overton City Cemetery. Mrs. Buckelew died Tuesday, August 15, 2006 in Kilgore. She was born December 7, 1926 in Tyler to the late William Blake and Sylvia Hawkins Steel. She married Reverend Richard I. Buckelew December 8, 1942 in Tyler. She lived in the Tyler and Overton area and was active in her husband's ministry at churches in Silver Lake, Tulia, Henderson, Troup, and Tyler. She was member of the Bible Baptist Church, Overton for 45 years, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for the primary classes and was a member of the Church Ladies Auxiliary. She also served as the church secretary for over 30 years. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded by her husband of 59 years, Reverend Richard I. Buckelew, November 15, 2001; a son, Richard Blake Buckelew; two grandchildren, Rhonda Kay Duncan and Rondell Duncan, Jr., two sisters, Naomi Lusk and Lettie Dickerson; and a brother, Percy Steel. Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Shera and Rondell Duncan, Overton, Peggy Jennings, Kilgore, and Saundra and Earl Pryor, Maydelle; a brother, J.B. Steel, Troup; a granddaughter, Starla Parsons; four grandsons, Kevin Pryor, Tracy Pryor, James Pryor and Tony Pryor; great-grandchildren, Johnathon Duncan, Kevin Pryor, Jr., Nicolas Pryor, Tyler Pryor, Brent Pryor, Chelsey Pryor, Johnie Star Parsons, Sara Bracewell, Emily Bracewell; a step great-grandson, William Hogue; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Johnathon Duncan, Kevin Pryor, James Pryor, Nicolas Pryor, William Hogue, and John Parsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Cagle, E.G. Reed, Wes Myhand, W.A. Steel, and Bobby Steel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Friday, August 18. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Bible Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 292, Overton, TX 75684-0292.
