Obituary of Barbara Caldwell
Memorial services for Barbara Ann Sisson Caldwell, 67, Troup, are scheduled for 11:00 am, Saturday, November 14, at the Troup First United Methodist Church, Troup with Reverend Mike Cline officiating. Services are under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
Mrs. Caldwell died Monday, November 9, 2009 at her residence. She was born April 20, 1942 in Nacogdoches to the late Robert Jackson and Glenna Ada Neeley Sisson. She graduated from Garrison High School in 1960 and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree with honors from Stephen F. Austin University in 1965. In 1984 she earned her Master of Education from Texas A&M Commerce.
She married John Henry Caldwell on August 21, 1965 in the Presbyterian Manse in Troup. She was a teacher at the Overton Middle School from 1968 until 1969 and then she moved to Garland, where she taught sophomore English and French. She taught at Lakeview Centennial High School from 1977 until 1988 when she had to take disability retirement due to severe rheumatoid arthritis. She then served as the arthritis educator with The University of Texas Health Science Center and for several years she taught English at Tyler Junior College. She and her husband John, who worked for Braniff Airways, had enjoyed traveling around the world.
They were active members of Axe Memorial Church in Garland before moving to Troup in 2000. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she served in the choir. She loved playing Mahjong with the Tuesday afternoon group.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, John H. Caldwell, Troup; a brother, Robert Sisson, Conway Arkansas; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Betty and Charles Blackwell, Chandler, and Debra Freshour, Conway, Arkansas; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
