Luther Boyd Wilson, 93, passed away May 3, 2019 in Tomball, TX surrounded by family.
Born October 27, 1925 to Luther George Wilson and Minnie Lee Close on a ranch near Spearman, TX, he was the oldest of 3 boys. Boyd was a surviving WWII veteran and served in the Army Corps of Engineers in the Philippine Islands and Japan. After the war, he earned his mechanical engineering degree from the University of Texas and later earned his Professional Engineer License. He moved to Midland, TX and began his life long career with Humble Pipeline Company/Exxon. He traveled extensively around the world with his job and worked on many exciting projects. Boyd’s all-time favorite project was the Alaskan Pipeline build as it had many challenges and obstacles to overcome. He kept a small bottle of the first oil to flow through this pipeline as a memory of that endeavor. Boyd met his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Marie (Hill) Wilson, in Midland, TX and they were married on May 29, 1954. They raised 2 daughters in Cypress, TX and later were blessed with 5 grandchildren.
Boyd was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved boating and water sports. He taught Dorothy how to waterski even though she didn’t know how to swim! Spending time with family was very important to Boyd. Early in their marriage he bought lake property and spending weekends with the family at the lake was tops on the list. So many memories were made at the lake with family and friends. Now the grandchildren are making their own memories there. Quite a legacy!
Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, Luther George and Minnie Lee Wilson, his brother Kenneth Duane Wilson, and his wife, Dorothy Marie (Hill) Wilson.
Boyd will be missed by his daughters and son-in-laws Memrie Nanette and Mark Berry Kelly of Tomball, TX and Tami Marie and Walker Hooker Hunt III of Cypress, TX; a brother and wife, Maynard Lee and Margaret Wilson of Austin, TX; a brother-in-law, Billy John Hill of Arp, TX; five grandchildren Travis Berry and Jacob Boyd Kelly, Brittany Elizabeth, Walker Hooker IV, and Victoria Marie Hunt; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be Walker Hunt, Travis Kelly, Jacob Kelly, Gary Hill, Jason Hill and Brady Hill.
Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Friday, May 10 at the funeral home.
