My relationship with Boyd always was one of “Little Brother and Big Brother” and there was never any confusion about which was which. He is ten years my senior for which I am grateful, as he cleared the trail for my life – showing me by example dangers to avoid and examples follow. He was right in all cases; just wish I had followed his guidance more often.
There was never a question about Big Brother’s positions about life.
“Put God first and family next in all your deliberations,” he would say.
“You must lean to the right, the left is full of grass burs and thorns,” he would say.
“We must return to the Constitution for our nation’s answers; the left is filled with uncertainty,” he would say.
“Be kind to all, give to those in need of a helping hand,” he would say.
“Support your friends and never neglect them,” he would say.
“I am the first of both sides of my family to attend college,” humbly, he would say. (And he had two younger brothers, two daughters and two grandsons who followed that example.)
And so much more…….
My last conservations with him were open, honest and especially, from the heart. We talked about our lives, wishing we had spent more time together. We talked about his remarkable kids and grandkids and we talked about his devotion to his departed wife, Dorothy. From the pain of her passing, he acquired a deep and abiding relationship with God. He spoke of the large cross dominating the skyline approaching Kerrville. Here, he claims to have realized the fullness, completeness and peace that comes from his faith.
And, we talked about our Jesus, wishing we had spent more time with him.
And so much more …..
I salute you Big Brother for your wonderful life; I would not be here except you saved me from drowning, twice! - once, when I was five then, eight. I’m just grateful you thought I was worth saving!
We are all immensely blessed with the fruit of your life, especially your amazing family.
You are the most decent, humble and loving man I have ever known. I love you dearly and miss you so very much; just be yourself as you proceed to the wonderful home Jesus built for just you.
Lee Wilson (Little Brother)
