Obituary of Melvin "Red" J. Dickerson

    A private viewing will be held for the family. Arrangements are under direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton.  In leu of funeral service, Mr. Dickerson’s ashes will be spread at a later date.

    Mr. Dickerson passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019 in a Longview hospital. He was born November 13, 1947 in Quanah, Texas to the late Melvin James Dickerson, Sr. and Imogene Fredenburg Dickerson and married Kay Gillespie August 7, 1968 in Plains, Texas. He is a veteran of the National Guard and moved to East Texas in 1993. He was a truck driver for ACME Brick in Longview for 12 years.  He started his own business in 2006 and worked for himself until 2017. 

    Besides his parents, Mr. Dickerson was preceded in death by a sister who died in infancy. 

    Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Kay Dickerson of Kilgore; a son, Chad Dickerson of Fort Worth; two daughters, Shelley Edney and husband Mike and Amy Strong and husband Mike of Kilgore; two sisters, Judy Debus of Sterling, Colorado, and Shawn Rosa of Hobbs, New Mexico; 5 grandchildren; Kolby, Trenton and wife Ashton, Colby, Riley and Kaylea. He had numerous nieces and nephews.
