Obituary of C A Wilkinson
Funeral services for C A Wilkinson, Jr., 100, former resident of Troup, will be held Tuesday, December 18, at 1:00 pm at Cottle Funeral Home, Troup, with Russell Lester officiating. A military recognition by the US Navy will be held in conjunction with the service at the funeral home.
Visitation will be held 1 hour before the services at the funeral home. There will be no gravesite services and burial will be in Bradford Cemetery in Troup.
C A passed away peacefully Saturday, December 15, in Sugarland where he resided at the time of his death. Prior to moving to Sugarland, he had resided at the Hampton Nursing facility in Tyler for many years. The family will always be grateful for the loving care he was given there.
C A was born in Winona to the late C A Wilkinson, Sr., and Myrtie Gray Wilkinson on November 29, 1918. He graduated from Troup High School in 1935 and continued his education at Oklahoma City University where he received a degree in accounting. He later joined the Navy and served on the USS Tangier. He was on ship the day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. He was known for his fantastic memory and has contributed to several documentaries and books about that day, December 7, 1941.
He is preceded in death by his wife Heloise Roddy Wilkinson, his parents, his brothers, Francis Gray and Willie David Wilkinson and uncles, Tom and Joe Gray and aunt, Verda Gray Kersh.
He is survived by his niece Kim and husband Chris Cantele, Houston; Karen Andrews, Troup; and nephew, Mark and wife Brenda Lester, Longview; as well as numerous great and great- great nieces and nephews. His sister-in-law, Joyce Wilkinson, Troup, also survives.
