Obituary of Navoleine Ross Roddy

Nina Navoleine Roddy, 94, of Troup, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, October 15th, after a brief illness. Mrs. Roddy worked in the field of education for forty-seven years. She taught in the classroom for the majority of her career, but also served as Troup Elementary Principal and later as Curriculum Director. Mrs. Roddy attended Stephen F. Austin State University where she earned her Bachelors, Masters and Mid-Management Certification. She grew up in Mixon and had her first teaching assignment there. Except for a period of time during World War II, Mrs. Roddy lived her entire life within a 10-mile radius encompassing Mixon and Troup. She and her family, moved to Troup in 1960 where she began her long teaching career with Troup ISD. Mrs. Roddy was an active member of the Troup Church of Christ, where she taught a children’s Bible class until the age of 86 and helped with the community’s Clothes Closet until recent months. Mrs. Roddy helped establish Senior Game Day, held at the Cameron – J. Jarvis Municipal Library each month. She was active in the Troup Women’s Civic Organization, Troup Genealogical Society and Troup Friends of the Library. In 2001, Mr. and Mrs. Roddy were honored as Troup’s Citizens of the Year. Then in 2008, they were honored again with the Lifetime Achievement Award Mrs. Roddy was born in Mixon on June 8, 1922 to William Tell Ross and Susie Beatrice Ross. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, RJ Roddy, and her daughter, Patsy Fisher. She is survived by two daughters and her daughter’s husbands: Rita Jo and Dwade Reinsch of Wylie, Becky and Dennis Mays of Selma, North Carolina and Alan Fisher of Tyler. She was blessed with six grandchildren and their spouses: Amy Buwalda of Allen, Chris and Dawn Reinsch of Yellville, Arkansas, Jennifer and Greg Schroeder of Atlanta, Georgia, Josh and Dana Mays of Las Vegas, Nevada, Matthew and Jennifer Mays of Charlotte, North Carolina and Sara and Thomas Lacombe of Leland, North Carolina. Her blessings continued with thirteen great grandchildren, Brittany and Todd Reinsch, Brett and Tanner Buwalda, Jordan and Kaitlyn Mays, Bella Grace Price, Harper and Ryan Mays, and Jack, Matilda, Harvey and Lillian Schroeder. She also leaves her dear sister, Ruth Cole and sister-in-law Anita Ross, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family. Services for Mrs. Roddy will be held on Wednesday, October 19th at 3:30 p.m. at the Troup Church of Christ with Jim Heath officiating, followed by a graveside service and interment at Pinecrest Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, October 18th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cottle Funeral Home in Troup.
