Obituary of Logan "Wayne" Lacy

Services for Logan “Wayne” Lacy, 79, Arp, will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at the First Baptist Church, Overton, with Doctor Charles Paschall officiating. Military graveside services will be at 2:00 pm Thursday, November 19, 2015 in the Bryan City Cemetery, Bryan. Arrangements are under direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton. Mr. Lacy died Sunday, November 15, 2015 in Tyler. He was born May 27, 1936 in Wellington to the late Robert Melton and Edith Cummings Lacy and has been a long time resident of the East Texas. He is a descendent of the early Gladewater Pioneers and his great-great grandfather was instrumental in pushing the railroad thru to the West. He married Jane Elizabeth Delaplane June 26, 1959 at College Station and he was a Lt. Col in the US Army and retired after 21 years of service. He graduated from Texas A&M College with a degree in Agriculture Education and a Masters Degree in Plant Pathology. He taught Agriculture at College Station and came to the Kilgore College and taught Agriculture and managed the Kilgore Ag Farm from 1963 to 1980. He also taught at Tatum High School from 1980 to 1981 and Kilgore High School in 2002. He was County Agent for Texas A&M AgriLife from 1982 to 1998. Mr. Lacy was Distinguished Citizen of the year twice and served as President of the Arp Chamber of Commerce for several terms. He also served as president of the Soil and Water Board of Smith County and was a member of the East Texas Antique Tractor Club. He served as Junior Livestock Show Superintendent. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Overton where he served as Chairman of the Deacons. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jane Lacy, Arp; a son and daughter-in-law, John Robert and Kellie Lacy of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen Elizabeth Lacy and David Garcia, San Antonio; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Faye and Joe Murphy, Bedford, Annell Simcoe, Montgomery, and Renee and Dan Sheflin, Port Orange, Florida; a grandson, Logan David Garcia, San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Pallbearers will be, George Philley, Ron Mirabella, Philip Davin, C.R. Evans, David Powell and Charlie Perkins. Honorary pallbearers will be John Henry, Maxwell Jones, David Jones, Neil Osburn, Jack Sims, the Deacons of the Overton First Baptist Church, Members of the East Texas Antique Tractors Association and Former Students. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Cal Farley Boy’s Ranch, P.O.
