Obituary of Joe Allen Layne

Joe Allen Layne, a loving husband, Daddy, and Papa, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Tuesday, September 2, 2014. A celebration of his life will be held at the First Baptist Church, Troup at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 6, with the Reverends Lynn Ashcraft and Larry Craig officiating. Burial will be in the Henry’s Chapel Cemetery, near Troup, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup. Joe was born August 27, 1941, to the late Joseph Albert Layne and Savannah Stone Layne. He graduated from Troup High School in 1959. He married the love of his life, Dianne Beck, September 11, 1963. He worked for Troup Lumber Company for 23 years and then was general manager of EasTex Materials and Longhorn Building Materials until his retirement. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Troup, where he was a Deacon and taught Sunday School for many years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and an occasional round of golf with his ‘Golf Buddies’. Joe was extremely kind, generous, and loving and all that knew him will remember his love of life and constant smile. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dianne Beck Layne of Troup. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mickey and Sheri Layne of Flower Mound; daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Jeff Hammonds of Troup; daughter, Amanda Layne of Frisco. Joe will be missed by his four grandchildren, Trenton and Michaela Layne and Josh and Justin Hammonds. Joe is also survived by his sister, Charlene McCreight of Flower Mound; his brother, N.F. “Red” Layne of Paris, Texas; his sister-in-law, Joyce Woolfolk and brother-in-law, Charles Woolfolk; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Nolan Scruggs, Kevin Stanley, Randall Mangum, Alex Turner, Brad Ledford, Greg Evans, Chris March and Jerry Hamilton. Honorary Pallbearers will be his fun loving golf buddies and his Adult II Sunday School class. The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church, Troup, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, Friday, September 5. The family would like to thank the 6th floor staff at East Texas Medical Center, Tyler for their excellent care and endless love and kindness.
