Obituary of John Thomas Crumpler
Services for John Thomas Crumpler, 76, Big Oak Bay, are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Wednesday, May 30, at the Arp Emmanuel Baptist Church, with the Reverend Doctor Ron Klingsick officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Elkins Cemetery, under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton.
Mr. Crumpler died Sunday, May 27, in a Tyler hospital. He was born October 24, 1930, in Smith County, near Troup to the late William L. and Bessie Lois Williams Crumpler.
A 1948 graduate of Arp High School, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Howard W. Gilmore from 1948 until 1952. Mr. Crumpler was the owner and president of Crumpler Construction Company from 1970 until 1994 and was a member of the American General Contractors Association.
He served on the Arp Independent School District Board of Trustees for six years, serving as president for two years.
He was member of the Canton Masonic Lodge #98, Arp and was also a member of the Arp Emmanuel Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas Gordon Crumpler.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Stella Lillo Crumpler, Lake Tyler East; a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Patti Smith, Tyler; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Teresia and Jerry Mayo, Tyler, Olivia and Billy Duffey, Houston, Debi and Donald Heath, Tyler and Angela Batie, Tyler; fifteen grandchildren, Stephanie Mayo, Jennifer Mayo, Jonathan Mayo, Chris Duffey, Joshua Duffey, Jacob Duffey, Erica Smith, Brad Smith, Shay Burton, Adam Batie, Janée Heath, Adam Heath, Shay Tyler, Trey Tyler, and Dylan Tyler; and nine great-grandchildren.
Grandsons serving as pallbearers will be Jonathan Mayo, Chris Duffey, Josh Duffey, Shay Burton, Brad Smith, and Adam Batie.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, May 29.
