Obituary of Helen Herrin

Services for Helen E. Herrin, 87, Arp, are scheduled for 1:00 pm, Tuesday, January 30, at the Arp Emmanuel Baptist Church with Reverend Doctor Ron Klingsick officiating. Burial will be in Mason Cemetery, Arp, under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton. Mrs. Herrin died Sunday, January 28, 2007 in a Longview hospital. She was born April 13, 1919, in Flint, to the late Sam H. and Leta Armstrong Phillips. She attended school in the Flint area and completed her teaching education through Tyler Junior College, Stephen F. Austin State University and Texas Eastern University, now know as the University of Texas at Tyler. Helen retired in 1987 from the Arp Independent School District where she was an Elementary School Teacher. She was active the Arp community was loved and respected by all who knew her. She had served as President of the Arp Chamber of Commerce and had also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Arp Independent School District. She was a member of the Arp Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she had served as a Sunday School teacher. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, F.O. 'Joe Bob' Herrin; a granddaughter, Kathy McDougal Tuttle; a brother, R.L. Phillips; and two sisters, Hazel Hendrix and Billie Phillips. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry Herrin, Grapevine and Terry and Marsha Herrin, Palestine; three daughters and a son-in-law, Joy Savage, Longview, Linda Bundick, Tyler, and Carolyn and Harold McDougal, Troup; two sisters, Dorothy Weathers, Troup and Wilma Mayo, Fort Worth; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Monday, January 29. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Heartsway Hospice of Northeast Texas, 1306 Pine Tree Road, Longview, TX 75604.
