Obituary of Lorena Spencer

Services for Lorena Spencer, 88, Longview, will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 11, in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Marvin Harman officiating. Burial will be in Mason Cemetery, Arp. Mrs. Spencer died Thursday, December 9, 2010 in a Longview nursing home. She was born September 9, 1922 in Corsicana to the late Joseph Franklin and Hattie Lurena Richards Estes. She moved to Longview from Arp in 2005 and was known for her talent of crocheting. She had worked as a medication aide for Leisure Lodge, Overton and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Arp. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman G. Spencer, sons, Marvin Spencer and Wayne Spencer, and grandchildren, Brooke Barber Hall and Christopher Lee Spencer. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Gayden and Marla Spencer of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Ron and Linda Spencer of Midland; a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Greg Phelps of Longview; six grandchildren, Phyllis Spencer Brixey, Chip Spencer, Steve Spencer, Lana Spencer Watson, all of Missouri, Leslie Stiles of Lindale, Lori Barber Thompson of New London, and Chad Spencer of Tyler; a sister, Willie Mae Edwards of Longview; seven grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; and two great great granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, December 10, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
