Obituary of Simon Bynum
Full military services for Simon T. Bynum, 85, Kilgore, will be at 10:00 am Thursday, November 18, in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel, Overton with US Army Chaplain Audrey W. Jones officiating. Burial will be in Overton City Cemetery.
Mr. Bynum died Sunday, November 14, 2010 in a Tyler hospital. He was born August 27, 1925 in Pelican, Louisiana to the late William Franklin and Maggie Williams Bynum. He lived most all his life in East Texas and he worked for Gibson Drilling Company as a truck driver. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in WWII and the Korean War where he was a POW.
Mr. Bynum was preceded in death by four brothers, Henry Bynum, Huey Bynum, Woody Bynum and J. B. Bynum; a sister, Margie Bynum; his wife, Virginia Bynum and a son, Kevin Mark Bynum.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Martha Bynum, and Thomas Bynum, all of Marshall, Jerry and Mary Bynum, Kilgore, James and Tina Bynum, Hughes Springs, Michael "Mike" and Julie Bynum, and Paul and Sasha Bynum, all of Arp; daughters and sons-in-law, Candace 'Candy' and Paul Vanover, Red Springs, Joyce and Charles Lester, Hope, Arkansas, Tina and C. G. 'Link' Lingenfelter, Magnolia, Arkansas, and Laura and Scott Lambert, Holly Lake; 27 grandchildren, Nikki and Jack Scott, Wesley Vanover, W.F. "Trey" Bynum III, Sheila Clark, Sherry Evans, Susie Minatrea, Angie Morris, Tonya and Joe McCauley, Sonya Bynum, Jennifer Bynum, Crystal Bynum, Jayden Bynum, Jennifer & Marquis DuGan, Patrick Oller, Jackie and Clint Murry, Lisa and Jose Ortiz, Ashley Oller, Clayton Lester, Cheyenne Lester, Jake Lingenfelter, James "Jim" Bynum II, Stephen Bynum, Kathrine "Katie" Bynum, Mason Bynum, Bailey Bynum, Braeden Bynum, Jaela Beck-Lambert; 18 great-grandchildren, Rachel Scott, Brandon Clark, Ronnie Evans, Mark Evans, Becky Minatrea, Rachel Mathis, Casey Morris, Mason and Rome Davenport, Quintin DuGan, Janessa DuGan, Carys DuGan, Mark Oller, Parker Oller, MacKenzie Oller, Noah Oller, Landon Oller and Callie Murry; great-great grandchildren, Ivaline Clark, Emma Clark and Erica Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews, and a long time friend, Suzanne Gibson.
Pallbearers will be the US Army detail and sons, Billy Bynum, Thomas Bynum, Jerry Bynum, James Bynum, Mike Bynum, and Paul Bynum. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews and Sammy Jackson.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Wednesday, November 17.
