Obituary of W.L. Gilley

Graveside services for W.L. 'Leroy' Gilley, 77, Arp, known as 'the one-legged house mover", are scheduled for 1:00 pm, Wednesday, November, 22 at the Union Grove Cemetery, near Troup, with the Reverends Marvin Harman and Artie Jones officiating, under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton. Mr. Gilley died Sunday, November 19, 2006, in a Tyler hospice facility. He was born January 1, 1929, in Smith County, to the late M.P. and Lucille Lyles Gilley. He was a graduate of Grapeland High School and received an Associates Degree in Radio and Television from Tyler Junior College. Mr. Gilley was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. For 45 years, he owned and operated Gilley House Moving, Arp. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers, and a sister. Survivors include his wife, Pat Gilley, Arp; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Lonnie Howard, Arp and April and Greg Hale, Tyler; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Phillip and Margie Harrell, North Augusta, South Carolina, John Harrell, Arp, and Floyd and Billie Harrell, Yuma, Arizona; a sister, Joy Stansbury, Tyler; seven grandchildren, Bridget Harrell, Kevin Howard, Kyle Howard, Colton Lyles, Blake Hale, Julie Harrell, and Jerri Harrell; and several nieces and nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be the former employees of Gilley House Moving, Sam Hymer, and B.R. Scruggs. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, November 21.
