Obituary of Russell ‘Turnip’ Martin

Services for Russell B. 'Turnip' Martin, 87, Concord, are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Wednesday, May 18, at the Concord Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Reverend Duane Dougherty officiating. Burial with military honors, will be in the Concord Cemetery. Mr. Martin died Monday, May 16, 2011, in a Henderson hospital. He was born October 8, 1923, in Cherokee County to the late Ned and Annie Brown Martin. He married Faye Ann Martin, June 28, 1947, in Concord. She preceded him in death February 21, 2008. Mr. Martin was an Army veteran of World War II and was a part of the infantry landing at Omaha Beach in Normandy. He had also served in the U.S. Air Force.   He retired from Texas Eastman - Kodak in Longview following 35 years of service. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Larry Russell and Sheree Martin, Price; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Fay and Cliff Reisor, Greenville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Hubert and Opal Martin, Goodsprings and Alvin and Janice Martin, Tatum; a sister, Dorothy Mahaffey, Concord; grandchildren and their spouses, John Rogers Cohagen, Jr. and his wife, Stacy, Hallsville, Heather Martin Davis and her husband, Todd, Henry's Chapel, Heath Martin and his wife, Dorian, Price; great grandchildren, Holden Cohagen, Hallsville, Brooklyn Davis, Henry's Chapel and Jory Martin, Price; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family. Pallbearers will be Kenny Martin, Dean Martin, Wayne Martin, Randall Martin, Charlie Mahaffey, Clois Martin, Tony Martin, and Tommy Martin. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Concord Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 212 CR 4705, Troup, TX 75789. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, May 17.
