Obituary of LaVerne Shuttlesworth
The celebration of LaVerne Shuttlesworth's life will be held 3:00 pm, Tuesday, November 14, at the First Baptist Church, Troup, with the Reverends Coley Shuttlesworth and Lynn Ashcraft officiating. Interment will be in the Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
Mrs. Shuttlesworth died Saturday, November 11, 2006 in a Tyler nursing home. She was born February 16, 1932, in Cherokee County to the late George D. and Allie Mae Gray Duty.
Mrs. Shuttlesworth attended Troup public schools. She married Loyd Shuttlesworth on October 30, 1948. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Troup, and the Troup Chapter #421 of the Order of The Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by a son, Randy Shuttlesworth, a son-in-law, Kerry Rasberry, and two brothers, Randal Duty and Melvin Duty.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Loyd Shuttlesworth; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl Rasberry-Stanley and David Stanley, Tyler and Sue and Keith Cohagen, Troup; a brother and sister-in-law, Merle and Jo Ann Duty, Troup; a brother-in-law, Robert Shuttlesworth, Carthage; four grandchildren and their spouses, Kevin and Maria Gracie, Marlin, Julie and Jeremy Bunn, Jacksonville, Dusti and Clint Cover, Troup and Kyle Cohagen, Troup; four great grandchildren, Bernice Gracie, Bracey Cover, Bailey Bunn, and Emory Cover; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Gracie, Kyle Cohagen, Keith Cohagen, David Stanley, Richard Shuttlesworth, Clint Cover, Jeremy Bunn, and Johnny Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Gimble, Joe Layne, Fred Head, Steve Shuttlesworth, and George Shuttlesworth.
The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church, Troup, Monday, November 13, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
