Obituary of James Boyd Miller

Graveside services with both military and Masonic honors, for James Boyd Miller, 90, Troup, will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 28, in Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home. Mr. Miller died Saturday, September 25, 2010, in Chandler. He was born June 16, 1920 in Gary, Texas to the late William Monroe and Bessie Turner Miller. He married Ouida Jo Thomas April 10, 1940 and moved to Troup in the late 40's. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving on the USS Mifflin during World War II. He was a driller and worked for Gipson Drilling Company, Kilgore. He served over fifty years as a member of the Troup Fire Department, the Laney-Gambrell American Legion Post #418 and the Dixie Masonic Lodge #272, all of Troup. He attended the First Baptist Church, Troup. He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 70 years, Ouida Jo Miller on March 10, 2010. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Sidney and Brenda Miller of Chandler and James Christopher and Teresa Miller of Dallas; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Jo and James Derrington of New Summerfield; two sisters and one brother-in-law, LaVerne Fielder, Houston, and Jimmie Ruth and Jay LaFitte, Shreveport, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Karla Miller Cooper, Keith Miller, Stacey Brewer, Patrick Brewer, Johnny Brewer and Damien Miller; and seven great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Keith Miller, Daniel Cooper, Patrick Brewer, Damien Miller, Ronnie Jack Smiley and James Gore.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Monday, September 27.
