Obituary of LaBelle McAfee
Services for LaBelle McAfee, 89, Overton, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 8, at the Overton Missionary Baptist Church with Reverends Bryan Ethridge, Wade Duck, and Atwell Hankins officiating. Burial will be in Overton City Cemetery under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton.
Mrs. McAfee died Friday, September 3, 2010, in Longview. She was born November 17, 1920, in Arp to the late John and Nellie Dickerson Brasfield and lived all her life in the Arp and Overton area.
She married Claude O. McAfee March 2, 1940, in Overton. For ten years, she worked for Hall-Barrett Drug Store and had also worked as a bookkeeper for George Herron Contractors. She was a longtime staff member at Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home and felt privileged to be able to minister to people in their time of grief. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hall Brothers VFW Post #9185, Overton.
Mrs. McAfee was a member of the Overton Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as bookkeeper. She was a marvelous cook and loved to share with her many friends and family. She was a wonderful artist and enjoyed making ceramics and crocheting. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by a son, Claude Wesley McAfee on March 1, 1970. She was also preceded by her brothers and sisters, J. W. Brasfield, J. C. Brasfield, Grady Paul Brasfield, Ruby Lee Hanson, Loraine Brasfield, Nell Copeland, Dixie Walker and Bonnie Richardson.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 70 years, Claude O. McAfee, Overton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elsie and Larry Hollis, Sweeney and Betty and Jerry Clark, Brownsville; six grandchildren, Bobby Pearson, Teri Mayfield, Tammy Mullins, Patrick Clark, Scott Hollis and Laura Vineyard; 12 great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jerry Mayfield, Lee Mayfield, Colby Pearson, Johnathan Pearson, Bobby Pearson, Patrick Clark and Jason Clark.
Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Hollis, Jerry Clark, Bob Webb, Steve York, and the members of Hall Brothers VFW Post #9185. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, September 7.
