Obituary of Royce Peacock
Graveside services with military honors for Royce E. Peacock are scheduled for 1:00 pm, Saturday, January 8, in the Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup, with Reverend Mike Cline officiating under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
A twenty-year resident of Troup, he passed on January 1, 2011, at the age of 87. He was the son of Edmon A. Peacock and Etta Lee Draper Peacock and was born in Corsicana, August 17, 1923. He received his education in Carlisle Public Schools (Price), where he was an outstanding student and athlete, and at The University of Texas, Austin and received his B.A. From Stephen F. Austin University, Nacogdoches. He served as an infantry officer in World War II with the 44th Infantry Division and was highly decorated for combat in Europe. His medals included two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster with letter 'V' device, and a presidential unit citation. He was a liaison officer during the Korean conflict.
Peacock coached basketball and soccer for many years in Stowe, Vermont, where he and his wife also owned and operated a ski lodge.
He married Dollie Robinson Hatten on April 11, 1951, in Round Rock and she preceded him in death in 1997. He was also preceded in death by a brother Albert Peacock and three sisters, Florence Heath, Betty Elkins, and Doris Thill.
He is survived by step daughter Nancy Sideris of Warsaw, Indiana, her children and grandchildren and by three brothers, one sister-in-law and one brother-in-law. They include Johnny Peacock of Houston, Raymond and Margaret Peacock of Longview, Dr. Leslie Peacock of Troup and Marvin Thill of Bullard. Also surviving are numerous nephews and nieces and their children.
The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm, Saturday, January, 8, 2011.
