Obituary of Emory Alston

Funeral services for Emory Steve Alston, 62, Troup, will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 2, at the First Baptist Church, Troup with the Reverend Mike Jeter officiating under direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup . Military graveside services will be in the Bradford Cemetery, Troup. Mr. Alston died Sunday, October 29, 2006 at his residence in Troup. He was born April 27, 1944 in Bokchito, Oklahoma to the late Emory Lee and Daisy Belle Jones Alston. He lived most all his life in Troup and graduated from Troup High School in 1962. He moved to West Texas where he worked as a ranch hand until he joined the US Navy where he was an Engine man 3rd class and spent three years on the aircraft carrier USS Hancock which received two citations from the President during the Vietnam war. He attended Tyler Junior College for two years and he worked for the Lindale Canning Plant, Carrier, Transit Mix, Basters of Jacksonville, Nichols, and he was a diesel mechanic. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Troup. He was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Thomas Alston. Survivors include two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Alston of Troup, and Nancy and R. L. Etheridge of Bonham; nephews, John Emory Etheridge and William Keith Etheridge; a great nephew, Scott Etheridge; great niece, Elisabeth Etheridge; great-great niece Kadince Etheridge; and a cousin Budgey Jones. Pallbearers will be R. L. Etheridge, John Emory Etheridge, Thomas Shiflet, Joe Taylor, Gary Swiney, and Mark Ellis. Honorary pallbearers will be William Etheridge and Charlie Soape. Visitation will be from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, at the funeral home.
