Obituary of Dora (Flores) Logan
Services for Dora (Flores) Harris Logan, of Arp, are scheduled for 10:00 am, Friday, October 27, at the Arp Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Reverend Doctor Ron Klingsick and Reverend Tommy Harden officiating. An Eastern Star service will also be conducted, followed by burial in the Mason Cemetery, Arp, under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton.
Dora was born March 24, 1918, in Rio Grande City, Texas. She passed away October 24, 2006, at the age of 88, in New London. She was the oldest of six children.
Dora married Fred Harris while he was stationed in the Calvary at Fort Ringgold, Rio Grande City. The lived and reared their two boys while living in Flour Bluff, Texas. He preceded her in death in 1956.
She married P.P. Logan and they traveled around the country working with Hudson Engineering until retiring in Arp.
She was an active member of the Arp Emmanuel Baptist Church were she taught Bible School. She loved to talk on the telephone, and if you were a shut-in, she had your number and was sure to call you each day to see how you were doing. Even when she was going blind, she used a magnifying glass to call everyone. She was also a Pink Lady at the Overton Hospital, Mother Frances Hospital, Tyler, and the Corpus Christi Hospital. She also served as a Spanish interpreter for Dr. James Hamilton, Overton. She loved to sing and church songs were her favorite. You could hear her before you came into the house.
She loved little children and baby sat for as long as she was able. She waited for the bus many a day to drop off the children.
Dora was a past Worthy Matron of the Troup Chapter #421, of the Order of the Eastern Star, and also was a member of the Daughters of the Nile and the Bosnians.
Her son, Jack Harris, and her husband, P.P. Logan, her sisters, Meanuela and Rosa, and brothers, Clemente and Royale, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Logan is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Patricia Harris, Arp; a grandson and his wife, Jack and Lynn Harris, Clarksville, Maryland; Granddaughters and their husbands, Michelle and Erich Wilson, Arp, Leah and Arnold Serrata, Corpus Christi, and Lana and Randy Ruiz, Houston; seven great grandchildren; two great-great granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be member so the Canton Masonic Lodge #98, Arp.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Thursday, October 26.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd, Tyler, Texas 75701, or to the Canton Masonic Lodge #98, P.O. Box 238,Arp, TX 75750 for their work with the Shriners hospital.
