Obituary of Eliott Stone
Graveside services for James Eliott Stone, 94, Troup, are scheduled for 11:00 am, Monday, October 23, at the Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup with the Pastor Wes Bynum officiating. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Sunday, October 22, at Cottle Funeral Home.
Mr. Stone died Friday, October 20, 2006, at his home, near Troup. He was born August 31, 1912, in Cherokee County, Texas to the late Archie Washington and Jettie Jewell Rankin Stone.
Mr. Stone attended Henry's Chapel School. He married Barney Althea Thompson March 19, 1932. She preceded him in death October 11, 1997 after 65 years of marriage. Mr. Stone was a farmer and was known for his clean fields and beautiful produce. While farming, he drove a truck for Shaw & Dodson Feed Store in Troup.
He served as a Troup substitute rural mail carrier for 43 years, retiring at the age of 82. Mr. Stone was a member of the Salem and Prairie Lea School Boards, as well as the Smith County school Board.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Oddie Jackson.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James and Carolyn Stone, Shepherd; his daughters, Manota Bybee, Chester and Ruth Sheppard, Bullard. Grandchildren and their spouses surviving Mr. Stone, are Vicki and Mark Ronn, Garden City, Kansas, James E. Stone, Porter, Laurie and Bill Richardson, Livingston, Michael and Lois Stone, Shepherd, Bo and Roxann Richardson, Livingston, Brian Stone, Norfolk, Virginia, Diann and Dan Bayes, Hillsboro, Margaret Stone, Houston; Great-grandchildren, Dustin Babitzke, Jimmy Brasher, Bubba Brasher, April Brasher, Kyle Stone, Trevor Neale, Christopher Richardson, Mary Richardson, Katie Richardson, and Michael Eliott Richardson. He is also survived by his faithful, furry companion of 11 years, Buud. Also surviving, his devoted caregiver, Mildred Davis.
Grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
A time of remembrance/reflection will be held immediately following the graveside service at the First Assembly of God, Troup.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Stone requested that donations be made to the First Assembly of God, P.O. Box 672, Troup, TX 75789.
