Obituary of Max Jarvis
Graveside services for Max A. Jarvis, Jr., 87, Troup are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Sunday, October 15 at the Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup with Reverend Mike Cline officiating, under direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
Mr. Jarvis died Saturday, October 14, 2006, at the Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. He was born April 3, 1919, in Troup to the late Max A. and Elizabeth Wheelock Jarvis. He attended school in Troup and graduated from The Shriner Institute in Kerrville.
Mr. Jarvis was a member of the United States Navy serving in the Seabees in the South Pacific during World War II. He married Kathlyn Hines July 26, 1941. He was a lifelong resident of Troup and was an owner/operator of the Troup Chevrolet Company for many years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Troup where he taught Sunday school in his youth. He was a charter member of the Hilltop Country Club in Troup, and a member of the Laney-Gambell American Legion, Post #418, Troup.
Survivors included his wife of 65 years, Kathlyn Hines Jarvis of Troup; two sons and daughters-in-law, Andy and Stacy Jarvis of Whitehouse, and Jim and Susan Jarvis of Troup; two granddaughters and spouses, Stace and 1st. Sergeant Max Rasberry of Fort Polk, Louisiana, and Jenifer and Tre' Cheney of Whitehouse; a grandson Hunter Jarvis of Bryan/College Station; five great-grandchildren, Jake, Josie, and Jim Rasberry, Max and Chloe Cheney; and several nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are M.G. Wright, Roy Critchfield, Guy Lewis, and Dr. Jim Durrett.
