Obituary of Fred Horn

Funeral services for Fred G. Horn, 94, of Lake Cherokee, Henderson, are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Monday, June 21, at the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel, Overton, with the Reverend Doctor Ron Klingsick officiating. Burial, will full military honors, will be in the Jarratt Cemetery, near Jacksonville. Mr. Horn passed away in League City, June 18, 2010, among friends and family. Fred Gober Horn was born to the late James Wilson Horn and Laura Alice Johnson Horn on February 28, 1916, in Red Bay, Alabama. Mr. Horn was a veteran of WWII. He landed with the Normandy Invasion force on Utah Beach and fought through until the end of the war, including The Battle of the Bulge. During this time Mr. Horn served as a tank driver in the command of General George S. Patton. Mr. Horn was awarded numerous Medals, including six campaign ribbons, The Purple Heart, and Bronze Star.  Fred moved to Lake Cherokee in 1980 and has lived there since. For 25 years he worked at the Southside Landfill for Lake Cherokee in the guard house, retiring only when he was 90.  He was able to meet a lot of people from around Lake Cherokee by doing this. He was a member of the Chalk Hill Community Church and delighted in being a born again Christian! In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his first wife, Polly Horn and his second wife, Destine Horn and by his sisters, May, Flora and Neicy and brothers, Ike, Samp, and Floyd. He is survived by his three loving children, Michael Horn and wife, Mary of League City,  Steve Horn and wife, Carol of Lancaster, and Freida Horn, of Houston. In addition to his children, Fred has two grandchildren, Crystal and David Horn. Fred is also survived by two stepchildren, Dewitt Gray and Roger Gray, both of Waco; and numerous nieces and nephews.   The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, Monday, June 21.
