Obituary of Dewayne Phelps

Services for Dewayne Phelps, 44, Overton, are scheduled for 10:00 am, Wednesday, June 2 at the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel, Overton with Reverend Donnie Barron officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, near New London.  Mr. Phelps died Saturday, May 29, in a Tyler hospital. He was born September 16, 1965, in Kilgore and was a lifetime resident of East Texas. He was a graduate of Overton High School, where he excelled in football. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Phelps was a member of the Bullard Southern Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Alford Phelps and by brothers, Elton Alewine and Sam McGilvra. Survivors include sons, Naylan Phelps and Hunter Phelps both of Bullard; his mother and father, Juanita and Earl McGilvra, Arp; brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Connie Alewine, Kilgore, Gary and Michelle Alewine, Berea, Kentucky, Noah McGilvra and Tony and Emily McGilvra all of Tyler, Gary Lee and Renny Phelps, Andrews and Jackie Ray Phelps, Avery; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lisa and Kenneth Barnett, New London, Anita and Jeff Odom, Longview and Connie and Ronnie Hare, Andrews; the mother of his children, April Phelps, Bullard; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Pallbearers will be Gary Alewine, Kenneth Barnett, Noah McGilvra, Tony McGilvra, Jeff Odom and Jeff Wright. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Dewayne Phelps Memorial Fund accounts at any branch of either Kilgore National Bank or Citizens National Bank. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, June 1.
