Obituary of Irene Garrett

Graveside services for Irene Jones Garrett, 88, Troup, are scheduled for 10:00 am, Tuesday, September 12, at the Union Grove Cemetery, Troup, with the Reverends James Cheatham and Jim Norman officiating, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup. Mrs. Garrett died Saturday, September 9, 2006, in a Tyler hospital. She was born December 4, 1917, in Drane, to the late Curtis Clyde Jones and Emma Elmira Wilson Jones. She was a 1937 graduate of the Salem School, near Troup and was a housewife. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and flowers. Mrs. Garrett was a member of the First Baptist Church, Troup. She married Evan E. Garrett December 17, 1943. He preceded her in death October 20, 1986. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Rayford Jones. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law , Gerald 'Pete' and Linda Garrett, Troup and Bruce and Gayle Garrett, Dennard, Arkansas; a daughter, Nancy Jean Howard, Troup; a brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Eileen Jones, Garland; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and John Griffith, Coushatta, Louisiana and Mildred and T.K. Harrist, Doddridge, Arkansas; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two nieces and three nephews. Pallbearers will be Michael Howard, Stephen Garrett, Brad Garrett, Anthony Byrd, Tim Warren, and Mark Jackson. Great grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Monday, September 11.
