Obituary of Nancy McMillen Paul

Graveside services for Nancy McMillen Paul, 64, Troup, are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Sunday, April 11, at the Bradford Cemetery, Troup, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup. Ms. Paul died Thursday, April 8, 2010, in a Tyler hospital. She was born January 17, 1946, in Jacksonville to the late Paris and Vivian Duncan McMillen. A 1964 graduate of Troup High School, Ms. Paul received both her Masters and Bachelors Degrees in Communications from Stephen F. Austin State University. Employed by KHTV, Houston, from 1973 until 1987, she served as its News Editor, News Producer, Anchor, News Director and Public Affairs Director. She had served as Public Relations Officer for FEMA Region VI.  For the past 10 years, she has served as Professor of Mass Communications at Tyler Junior College. In 1981, she was named as one of the Outstanding Young Women In America.  Ms. Paul was a Baptist. She was also an artist whose oil paintings have been exhibited in one-artist shows and galleries and are owned by numerous private and corporate collections in several states and Indonesia. She was a member of the Houston Civic Arts Association and enjoyed gardening, her animals, and reading. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Delilah Beth Almand Jones and two brothers, Leland Paris McMillen and Louis Duncan McMillen. Survivors include three nieces, Amy McMillen Jay and her husband, Brian Jay, Flint, Karen Wehmeyer, Tyler and Diane Almand, Denton; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Judy and George McKinney, Troup; a great niece, Vivianne Jay; cousins, Doctor Paul and Ardath Francke, Thaddeus and Janell Stanton, Tom and Jo Ethridge, Laurie and Mitch Stamps and Barry and Anne Duncan; extended family, Wanda Cunningham, Doctors Casey and Michelle Cunningham and Chip, Austin and Waylon, Doctors Joe and Ariana Cunningham, and Luke, Sam and Hatch, Doctor Matthew and Tammy Vierkant and Caleb, Jacob, and Valerie, Debbie McKinney, T.J. and Janet McKinney and Morgan. Memorials, if desired may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 811 W Evergreen, Suite 303, Chicago, IL 60642. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Saturday, April 10.
