Obituary of Nels Olesen
NELS OLESEN
Funeral services for Nels H. Olesen, 89, Overton, are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Sunday, August 20, at the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel, Overton with the Reverends Johnny Wright and Bill Baker officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted by the Rocky Mount Masonic Lodge #63, Overton. Burial will be in the Overton City Cemetery.
Mr. Olesen died Friday, August 18, in New London. He was born January 20, 1917 in Beaumont to the late Ole C. and Sarah J. Brown Olesen.
He was a lifetime resident of Overton / Laird Hill area and was a graduate of Overton High School. He was a contract painter and an avid fisherman.
Mr. Olesen was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a lifetime member of the Rocky Mount Masonic Lodge #63, Overton where he was twice past as Worshipful Master. He was also a member of the Sharon Shrine.
Mr. Olesen was a member of the Grace Herald Baptist Church, New London where he was the senior Deacon.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 58 years, Mary Margaret Olesen September 28, 1996, and a sister, Doris Leigh Oliver.
Survivors include, his wife, Blanche Olesen, Overton; a son and daughter-in-law, Spencer and Jeanette Olesen, Grand Prairie; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and James Langford, Georgetown; a step son and daughter-in-law, Leslie and Barbara Pool, Livingston; three step daughters and a step son-in-law, Linda Lott, Tyler, Glenda and Bill Burgess, Overton, and Brenda Chew, Monahans; three grandchildren, Bradley Olesen, Anne Turner, and Michael Langford, and numerous step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren, Jack Turner, Sydney Turner, Hayden Turner, and Sophia Langford; and numerous great step-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brad Olesen, Scott Turner, Jim Langford, Bill Burgess, Leslie Pool, and Kirk Bradford.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Breedlove, Greg Lott, and Jerry Don Joiner.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, August 19, at the funeral home.
