Obituary of Fred McCaghren
Services for Fred McCaghren, Sr., 78, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 18, at the Cotte-Pearson Funeral Home chapel, Overton, with the Reverend Clyde Powell officiating. Burial will be in the Mason Cemetery, Arp.
Mr. McCaghren died Wednesday, August 16, 2006 in a Tyler hospice facility. He was born November 28, 1927, in Arp to the late Albert Ross and Mary Lena Wheeler McCaghren. He was a lifetime resident of East Texas.
Mr. McCaghren was an Army veteran, serving two tours in Korea. He served in the 31st Infantry Regiment in a cannon company and in the 3rd Division, 15th Regiment, in a tank company.
He was a retired welder and mechanic and owned and operated Tanglewood Service Center in Tyler, for 33 years.
Mr. McCaghren married Ethel Leonard September 2, 1949, in Columbus, Georgia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray McCaghren and Reuben McCaghren; and a sister, Myrl Burkett.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ethel McCaghren, Tyler; a son, Butch McCaghren, Tyler; two sisters, Marvel Cohagen, Tyler and Genelle Sebring, Owentown; nephews, Gary Burkett, Richard Clements, Jr., Richard Clements, Sr., Michael Ray Sebring, Harold Sebring, Tony Sebring, and Steve McCaghren; a niece, Shelley Powell; several nieces and nephews in Columbus, Georgia; and a very special friend, Marshall Bush of Columbus, Georgia.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 18 at the funeral home.
