Obituary of Wacyl Maris

Services for Wacyl Maris, 87, Troup, are scheduled for 1:00 pm, Thursday, February 25, at the Church of Christ, Troup, with Jim Heath and David Jenkinson officiating. Burial will be in the Griffin Cemetery under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup. Mrs. Maris died Monday, February 22, 2010 in a Tyler nursing home. She was born May 26, 1922 in the Griffin Community, near new Summerfield, to the late Raymond and Elma Skillern Evans. She married Edgar Maris in 1940 and they were residents of Jacksonville for many years. She had retired as a telephone operator for the General Telephone Company, Jacksonville. She had lived in Troup for 24 years and was a member of the Church of Christ, Troup. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Maris in 1991 and one brother, Sidney Lloyd Evans. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Joe Dan and Jenelle Maris, Sacramento, California; three daughters and two sons-in-law; Glenda Maris, Dallas, Gloria and Tom Brunell, Tyler, and Diane and Tom Kelly, Highland Village, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Helen Jo and Morris Tirpitz, Shreveport, Louisiana; eight grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Tom Kelly, Tom Brunell, Raphael Kelly, Bo Steele, Chance Steele, and Cash Davidson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Wednesday, February 24.
