Obituary of Dovie Ammons
Funeral services for Dovie Oriyn Ammons, 90, Overton, will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Johnny Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Overton City Cemetery.
Mrs. Ammons died Sunday, February 7, 2010 in a Longview hospital. She was born August 3, 1919 in Oloh, Mississippi to the late Jim and Jessie Robertson Lucus. In her younger years, she worked in a shipyard in Pascagula, Mississippi and moved to Overton in 1954 from Carthage. She worked as a seamstress in numerous factories and later worked at Sunshine nursing home and as a caregiver in the East Texas Area. She also worked in the nursery at the Overton First Baptist Church and she was a member of the Grace Herald Baptist Church. She loved God and her family. Her passions were cooking, gardening and sewing. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Ammons was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Grady Lucus, Gladys Lucas Singley, Pearl Lucus Moree, Reedus Lucus, and Ervin Lucus. She was also preceded by her husband, Ennis Ray Ammons and by a son, John Ennis Ammons.
Survivors include two sons, Michael J. Ammons and wife Brenda and Terry Lynn Ammons and companion, JoNell Henson, all of Overton; brothers and sisters, Bonnie Lucus Baker of Lima, Ohio, Vonceil Lucus Broome, Oloh, Mississippi, and James Lucus, Harlingen; grandchildren, Chris and Melinda Ammons, James "Skeeter" and Daron Ammons, Theresa "Tressa" and Tracy Crihfield, Dustin Ammons and Jessica and Phillip Jackson; great grandchildren, Dylon Ammons, Callie Jackson, Jonathan Jackson, Kailee Ammons, Tyler Miller and Tabatha Miller.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Ammons, Tommy Gibson, Philip Cox, Tim Loomis, Virgil Middlebrooks and Jim Parnell.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, February 9.
