Obituary of Buck Brown
Services for Buck Brown, 86, are scheduled for 10:30 am, Tuesday, January 26, at the
Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, near Whitehouse, with the Reverend Bennie Portwood officiating. Burial will be in the Whitehouse Cemetery.
Mr. Brown was born on June 17, 1923, in Millsap, Texas, to the late Earl and Olive Brown. He was one of thirteen children. He graduated from Whitehouse High School in 1942, where he met Nelda Faye Barkley, whom he married in August of 1942. Their union produced three children. Buck joined the United States Marines and served in Hawaii and China during World War II. After the war, he and his family moved to Pasadena, Texas, where he was employed at Shell Oil Company from 1946 to 1974. During that period, he worshiped at Second Baptist Church and served in many lay leadership positions.
He retired to his farm at Whitehouse, where he and Nelda enjoyed their life in the country until Nelda's death in 1992. He remained there until his death, and attended Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife and parents he was also preceded in death by his son, Ronald Buck Brown and brothers, Guy, Martin, and Marshall Brown.
Surviving family members are his daughters, Judy Evonne and her husband Bruce Cofer, Waco; and Rebecca Sue and her husband, Henry DuBose, Taylorsville, North Carolina; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth Mitchell, Rosa Collins, and Mary and B.C. McCoy all of Troup, Martha Burns, Palestine, Bernice Melton, Liberty City, and Alice and D.L. Thompson, Tyler; brothers and sisters-in-law, Oscar and Ethel Brown, Canton, Eldon and Sue Brown and Melvin and Betty Brown, all of Troup. He also has three grandchildren; Aaron Nelson, Joseph DuBose, and Douglas Cofer, and nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm, Monday.
