Obituary of Neva McMichael

Services for Neva McMichael, 93, Troup, are scheduled for 1:00 pm, Wednesday, December 9 in the Cottle Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery, near Troup. Mrs. McMichael went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, December 7, 2009. She was born April 14, 1916 in the Blackjack Community to the late Reverend J. S. and Emma Seagroves Jones. She was a lifetime resident of East Texas. She accepted the Lord as her Savior at the age of 12 and joined Blackjack Baptist Church. She eventually became a faithful and active member of West Duval Baptist Church, Troup, where she was still playing the piano at the age of 91. She had also served as teacher for the Junior Sunday School and Ladies Sunday School, Vacation Bible School director, church clerk, W.M.A. president, and Sunday School secretary. She received her Master of Education from Stephen F. Austin and had 36 years of teaching experience in the first grade and special education. She had volunteered at the Red Cross and the Troup Library. She had led a full and active life and was admired and respected by all who knew her. She was the last of her immediate family and was preceded in death in 1990 by her husband of 48 years, James Otis McMichael. Survivors include, four sons and three daughters-in-law, Nelan McMichael, Clifton, Michael and Pamela McMichael, Troup, Carman and Cindy McMichael, Tyler, and Joe and Susie McMichael, Murrieta, California; one daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Shawn Wallace, Prosper; 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and 27 nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Nelan Michael, Michael McMichael, Carman McMichael, Joe McMichael, Ryan McMichael, and Seth McMichael. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, December 8.
