Obituary of Jean Garrett
Services for Jean Garrett, 76, Troup, are scheduled for 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 2, at the First Assembly of God Church, Troup, with Reverends Wes Bynum and Tracy Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
Mrs. Garrett died Sunday, November 29, 2009 at her residence. She was born January 21, 1933 in Troup to the late Walter G. and Gracie Whitesides Allen. She married James Garrett on August 4, 1948 in Henderson. She was lifetime resident of the Troup area and was a Charter Member of the First Assembly of God Church, Troup, where she had served as Sunday school teacher, C.A. Leader, Sunday school secretary, and church secretary and treasurer.
She had worked at S. Barron's Store for many years and owned and operated the Flower Cottage, Troup, for seven years. She and her husband owned and operated J-Gar Well Service. After retiring, they loved to travel and collect antiques for their museum created in the original Garrett family home place.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, James Garrett, Troup; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Mary Garrett, Troup; granddaughter and her husband, Melissa and Jeremiah Redding, Troup; grandson and his wife, Kevin and Gaylynn Garrett, Troup; great granddaughters, Victoria and Brianna Redding, Ashlyn and Cheyenna Garrett; and great grandson, Jake David Garrett; sisters, Winnie Barnes, Waxahachie, Gay Dudley, Jacksonville, Hilda Ellis, Dallas, Rhydonia Clem and Nancy Linville, both of Troup; brothers, Latrell Allen, Carthage and Walter Allen, Gainesville.
Pallbearers will be Kelly Allen, Eric Allen, Steve Dudley, Chris Clem, Marcus Clem, Danny Barnes, and Brent Piper.
Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Wilson, David Wakefield, Bobby McMillan, and Frank Jakubik, Sr.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, December 1.
