Obituary of Edith Lacy
Graveside services for Edith Lacy, 91, Arp, formerly of Wellington, are scheduled for 10:00 am, Monday, November 23, at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Wellington with Rev. Derwin Comer and Wayne Lacy officiating, under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton.
Mrs. Lacy passed away Thursday, November 19, 2009, in a Tyler nursing home where she had resided for six years. She was born August 25, 1918, in Wellington to the late Palo Claude Cummings and Grace Edith Goodnight Cummings.
Mrs. Lacy was a resident of Wellington until 1997, when she moved to California be near her children. She later moved to East Texas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Wellington and had worked for many years for Owens Funeral Home and Adams Funeral Home, Wellington. Mrs. Lacy had also served as treasurer for the Memorial Gardens Cemetery Association. A member of a pioneer family, her grandfather, Isaac Thomas Goodnight came to the Wellington area in 1895.
She married Robert Melton Lacy, March 9, 1935. He preceded her in death, August 30, 1967. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Palo F. Cummings, and a son-in-law, Mel Simcoe.
Survivors include, a son and daughter-in-law, L. Wayne and Jane Lacy, Arp; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Faye Lacy Murphy and Joe Murphy, Bedford, Annell Lacy Simcoe, Montgomery, and Renee Lacy Dickson Sheflin and Daniel Sheflin, Minnetrista, Minnesota; grandchildren and their spouses, John and Kellie Lacy, Karen Lacy Garcia and David Garcia, Tom Murphy, Tim Murphy, Michael and Donna Simcoe, Stephen Simcoe, Robert Dickson, Paige Dickson, and Conner Sheflin; Great Grandchildren, Logan David Garcia and Sean Logan Simcoe.
The family will receive friends at Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, Saturday, November 21.
