Obituary of Virgal Calicutt

Funeral services for William Virgal Calicutt, 86, of New Chapel Hill are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2006 in the Cottle Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Mike Rice officiating. Burial will be in Mason Cemetery in Arp. Mr. Calicutt died June 3, 2006 in Tyler. He was born September 21, 1919 near Troup to the late John Allen and Mary E. Howard Calicutt. He was a lifelong resident of Smith County and married Ruth Evelyn Melton November 30, 1946 in Smith County. During his life, Mr. Calicutt had several occupations, including rose growing, farming, oil field worker, truck driver, maintenance worker at Howe Baker Engineers, and most recently he retired from his employment at Allred Produce Co. He was a charter member of the Cooperative Rose Growers Association and a member of the First Baptist Church in Arp. Along with his parents, Mr. Calicutt was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Calicutt. Survivors included his wife of 591/2 years, Ruth Evelyn Calicutt, daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Mike Duffy of Arp, son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Vicky Calicutt of Arp, daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Mike Carson of New Chapel Hill, son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Carol Calicutt of Whitehouse, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Charles Tate, Glenn Carpenter, David Fowler, David Duffy, Stephen Carson, and Payton Calicutt. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, June 4 , at the funeral home. If desired, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Arp, P.O.
