Obituary of Maurice Johnson

Funeral services for Maurice Edward Johnson, Sr., 87, Troup, will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel, Overton with Paul Witt and Jim Heath officiating. Burial will be in Johnson Family Cemetery, Arp. Mr. Johnson died Friday, October 9, 2009 in Tyler. He was born March 20, 1922 in Manhattan, Kansas to the late Aaron Kelly and Martha Ann Williams Johnson. He is a veteran of the US Army and served in WW II. He married Eva Jean Vaughn March 18, 1944 in Grandfield, Oklahoma. He was a supervisor for Celenese Chemical Company and retired after 37 years and has lived in the Troup area for 30 years. He was a faithful member of the Overton Church of Christ and a loving Papa to all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and never lost his sense of humor. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Eva Jean Johnson, of Troup; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Maurice Edward Johnson, Jr. of Valley View and Jerry Wayne and Claire Nell Johnson of Troup; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Jean and Jack Montgomery of Celina, Brenda Sue and Cliff Kenyon of Troup, and Debbie Kay and Darrell Duane Mitchell of Valley View; nineteen grandchildren; sixty two great grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be John 'Bubba' Davis, Jr., Aaron 'Jake' Johnson, Maurice Edward 'BJ" Johnson, III, Jerry Wayne Johnson, Maurice Edward Johnson, Jr., and Darrell Duane Mitchell. Honorary pallbearer will be Jack Montgomery and Don Dennis, JR. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 12, at the funeral home.
