Obituary of Melba Long
Graveside Services for Melba 'Mel' Long, 73, Overton, are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Friday, October 2, at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, near New London with the Reverend Bryan Ethridge officiating. Jim Dees will give the Eulogy. Services are under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton.
Mrs. Long died Monday, September 28, 2009 in Tyler hospital. She was born May 11, 1936 to the late Jesse Randolf Baker and Maple Mazie Luna Baker. She had been a resident of Overton for the past eight years.
Worked as a nursery school teacher in Moore Park, California and retired as a bookkeeper in Dallas.
She attended the Overton Missionary Baptist Church and the Bible Study Class.
Mrs. Long had a passion for gardening and was a wonderful cook.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Baker and Carlos Baker.
Survivors include her husband, Gene Long, Payson, Utah; three sons, Ralph Long, Odgen, Utah, James Long, Ventura County, California, and Tracy Long, Pasco, Washington; a daughter, Carolyn Long, North Carolina; a brother Ranny Baker, Plano; eight grandchildren several nieces and nephews.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Sammy Lee 'Bo' Keene, Jr., Justin Dees, Jeffery Dees, Joseph Dees, Don Goodson and Gary Don Holley
