Obituary of Wallace Moore

Funeral services for Wallace Richard Moore, Sr. 85, Overton are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Sunday, September 13, at the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel, Overton with the Reverend Atwell Hankins officiating. Burial will be in the Overton City Cemetery. Mr. Moore died Wednesday, September 9, 2009 in a Tyler hospital. He was born June 10, 1924 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mr. Moore was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He had been a resident of Overton for the past 32 years and was a former resident of Leverett's Chapel. He was a member of the Overton Pioneer Club and the First Baptist Church, Tyler. Mr. Moore retired from Sprint telephone in 1985 following 15 years employment. He had also served as operations manager for KLTV, Tyler for 15 years. He married Willene Smires in Texarkana, February 13, 1952. He was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Laughlin Nelson and his father Henry Nelson. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Willene Moore, Overton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Wallace Richard Moore, Jr. and Margie Moore, Kilgore and Scotty Moore, Overton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Steve Fiscus, Minneapolis, Minnesota and Denise and Gene Moffet, Overton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Margy Nelson and Darrell and Judith Nelson, all of Minnesota; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Kay Smires, Kilgore; sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Diane and Don Davis, Henderson and Berta Smires, New London; six grandchildren, Stephanie Smith, Teresa Pate, Patrick Fiscus, Jena Moffet, Jeffrey Moffet, and Gregory Moore; nine great-grandchildren; special grandchildren, Kristen and Sydney Hardin; best friend, Belle; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Mark Smires. Shane Hooten, Robert Raney, Monnie Portley, Tommy Hardin, and Allen Umholtz. Honorary Pallbearers will be the 2009 Overton High School Football Team and Coaches, and Roger Boles, Jerry Smires, Larry Smires, Dustin Davis, Mike Smires, and G.C. Rodriquez. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Saturday, September 12.
