Obituary of Alyce Keener

Funeral services for Alyce Keener, 82, New London, are scheduled for 1:00 pm, Tuesday, May 2, at the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel, Overton, with the Reverend Kerry Krone, pastor of the New London United Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial will be in the Pirtle Cemetery, in the Pirtle community near Kilgore.  Alyce passed away peacefully Saturday, April 29, 2006 in Marble Falls.  She was born August 1, 1923 in Shreveport, Louisiana to the late Walter Eugene and Dewitt Leach.  She was a homemaker and, at one time, owned a restaurant.  She loved serving others and visiting with friends and family.  She was a member of New London Methodist Church.  Alyce married Travis Keener October 7, 1943 in Bossier City, Louisiana.  Mr. Keener preceded her in death September 9, 1996 after 53 years of marriage.  She was also preceded by her sisters, Alma Gray and Anna Goss, her brother, Dick Leach, as well as a beloved aunt, Lillian Coston.  Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Richard Marshall, Burnet; a twin sister, Pauline Huggins, Aloha, Oregon; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kay and Lamar Burkhalter, Spring; a great-granddaughter, Hope Alyse Burkhalter, Spring; a nephew raised by Alyce and Travis, Bob Keener, Rowlett; a niece Sheila Roberts; and many loving nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.  Pallbearers will be Pat Hogan, Mike Hogan, Bob Keener, Lamar Burkhalter, Perry Myers, and Scott Thompson.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Monday, May 1.
