Obituary of Jay D. Johnson
Memorial services for Jay D. Johnson, Sr., 87, Whitehouse are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Thursday, July 30, at the First Presbyterian Church, 201 S Carolina Street, Troup, with the Reverend Doug Blanton officiating, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
Mr. Johnson died Friday, July 24, 2009, in a Whitehouse nursing home. He was born February 18, 1922, in Cordell, Oklahoma to the late Albert J. And Rosa Neeley Johnson. He had been resident of Whitehouse for the past 21 years.
He retired as a Master Chief in the United States Navy following 30 years of service. He served as a medical corpsman. He also had served as the Coroner for San Diego County, California for 11 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Troup.
Mr. Johnson loved history, horses and was a great family man.
He married Alice Hinderliter in Norman, Oklahoma December 9, 1941.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Alice Margaret Johnson, Whitehouse; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jay Dee Johnson, Jr. and Laura Johnson, Santee, California, Charles and Adrienne Johnson, Mount Juliet, Tennessee, and John and Marti Johnson, Monticello, Florida; two daughters and a son-in-law, Janet and James R. Noe, Redwood Valley, California and Jill Johnson, Whitehouse; five grandchildren, Seamus Johnson, Calum Johnson, Amy Johnson, Margaret Noe and Jessica Noe; and five great-grandchildren.
