Services for Gerald Millard Sadler, 85, Troup are scheduled for 11:00 am, Thursday, July 16, at the
First United Methodist Church, Troup with the Reverends Jon Stouffer and Mike Cline officiating. Burial will be in the Bradford Cemetery, Troup, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
Mr. Sadler died Monday, July 13, in a Tyler hospice facility. He was born November 9, 1923, in the Henry's Chapel Community, near Troup to the late Millard Filmore Sadler and Johnnie Henry Sadler.
He was a 1941 graduate of Troup High School and was a graduate of Tyler Commercial College. A Veteran of World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps, serving 15 months in England as a part of the 490th Bomber Group, 8th Air Force.
He and his wife owned and operated Sadler's Mobil Service Station and Auto Parts in Troup for 50 years from 1947 until 1997.
Mr. Sadler served on the Board of Directors of the Bradford Cemetery Association, Troup and was a former member of the Troup ISD Board of Trustees, serving as its President for many years. He was named the Troup Citizen of the Year in 1992. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Troup where he was a member of the Trustees and had also served as Chairman of the Administrative Board and various other capacities in the church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, J.C. Sadler and a sister, Eloise Baker.
Gerald loved his family, working with his cows and especially enjoyed serving his church.
He met Aileen Humphfus while attending Tyler Commercial College and they were married at Marvin United Methodist Church, Tyler, November 1, 1942.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Aileen Sadler, Troup; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Joe McElroy, Troup and Debbie and Steve Pratt, Denton; a sister, Fae Cross, Tyler; grandchildren, Amy and Shane Walters, Ryan Townsend, and Damien Miller; great-grandsons, Millard Eli Walters and Samuel Eugene Walters; and numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Bob White, Ryan Townsend, Damien Miller, Shane Walters, Andy Tarver, David Sadler, Bill Cabe, and Jack Dickey.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Carlyle, Nolan Smith, Merle Duty, Claud Obar, and Travis Thompson. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm, Wednesday, July 15.
