Services for Glynn Waldrop, 84, Troup are scheduled for 1:00 pm, Thursday, July 2, at the First Baptist Church, Troup with the Reverends Mike Jeter and James Cheatham officiating. Burial, with Military honors, will be in the Waldrop Cemetery, Panola County, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
Mr. Waldrop died suddenly, in a car accident, Monday, June 29, 2009, in Troup. He was born August 19, 1924, in the Brooks Community, Panola County, to the late Floyd and Elizabeth Brooks Waldrop. He was a graduate of Carthage High School.
Mr. Waldrop served in World War II in Patton's Third Army Division and fought in the Battle of The Bulge.
He had been a resident of Smith County for 40 years and had been a resident of Troup since 1974. He managed Olmsteads and Jelanes Shoe stores in Tyler and was a past president of the Rose City Kiwanis Club.
Mr. Waldrop was a member of the Whitehouse VFW post. He was also a member of the Dixie Masonic Lodge #272, Troup and was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Sharon Shrine Temple.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Troup where he was a Deacon and a Sunday School Teacher. He was baptized at the Fairplay Baptist Church.
Mr. Waldrop married Marjorie Cook, December 12, 1942, in Marshall.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Waldrop, Troup; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Cindy Waldrop, Houston, Gary and Loretta Waldrop, Prosper; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sue Bratton, Troup and Linda and Michael Allen, San Saba; an aunt, Jimmie Brooks, Carthage; a brother-in-law, W.E. Cook, Florida; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three nephews; and numerous cousins.
Deacons of the First Baptist Church, Troup will serve as pallbearers.
The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Wednesday, July 1.
