Obituary of Sally Allen

Funeral services for Sally Allen, 89, Overton, are scheduled for 11:00 am, Friday, June 5 at the at First United Methodist Church, Overton with the Reverend Ricky Ricks officiating. Burial will be in the Overton City Cemetery. Mrs. Allen died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, in Richardson at her residence. She was born May 29, 1920, in Tyler to the late George D. and Bess Gilland McCollum. She received her Bachelors degree from Texas Women's University and her Masters in Library Science form Stephen F. Austin University. She was a teacher for the Overton and West Rusk schools districts. She had lived in New London until 1963, when she moved to Overton. She had been a resident of Richardson since 2007. Mrs. Allen had also worked for Humble Oil Company. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, New London until moving to Overton, where she became a member of the First United Methodist Church, Overton. She married Clyde T. Allen June 14,1945, in Overton. He preceded her in death, February 24, 2000. She was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas Joe Allen April 28,1999. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Melanie Allen, Cat Spring; a daughter and son-in-law, Suzy and Jeff Smith, Richardson; four grandchildren, Ashley Marshall, Carrie Endman, Scott Allen and Mike Allen; and seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Thursday, June 4. Pallbearers will be Billy Vernon, Jack Montgomery, Jeff Marshall, Seth Endman, George Philley, and Fred Parsons. Honorary Pallbearer will be Gene Shannon. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 213 E. Henderson, Overton, TX 75684 or the Overton City Cemetery, P.O. Box 63, Overton, Texas 75684.
