Obituary of Will Goforth
Will Floore Goforth, born in Tyler, Texas, on Discovery Day, October 12, 1928, died on May 21, 2009 in Houston, Texas. He was valedictorian of Overton High School and loved East Texas.
He joined the Army as an infantry private and was discharged as a captain of Combat Engineers. He served tours of duty in Korea, Japan, Germany, etc. He graduated from the University of Texas, College of Engineering, in Austin, Texas, and won membership in the Ramshorn Society (Perfection in Engineering). He was a member of The National Society of Professional Engineers. After beginning his career in Maryland and Georgia, he settled in Houston and retired in 1986 from the oil and gas industry where he founded Skipwith Industries and remained as President and CEO until his death. Being based in Houston kept him close to his family and his many land and ranching interests throughout the state of Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Hanson and Charles Drinkard Goforth and his brothers, Charles and Roger Goforth.
He is survived by his daughter, Marion Ruth Goforth - Charles Jones, sons William Hanson Goforth - Joyce Young, and Charles Reithel Goforth - Shannon Cobb, sister Molly Sue Spear - Jack Spear, many nieces, nephews and other beloved family members.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at the Overton City Cemetery in Overton, Texas under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton.
