Obituary of Earl Hill

Funeral services for Earl Robert Hill, 89, Arp, will at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 23, in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Eddie Secrest and Reverend David Banks officiating. Burial will be in Mason Cemetery near Arp. Mr. Hill died Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at his residence in Arp. He was born May 4, 1920 in Zimmerman, Minnesota to the late Simon and Mabel Hanson Hill. He is a veteran of WW II and served in the US Air Force. He married Lena Killgore May 19, 1946 in Arp and has resided in Arp for 63 years. He was an instrument fitter and retired from Hudson Engineering of Houston after 25 years. He also retired from Howe Baker Engineering of Tyler. He served on the board for the Wesley Foundation of Tyler Junior College and was a member of the Arp United Methodist Church where he served in many offices including chairman of the board and treasurer. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Kermit Hill and a sister, Lillian Lund. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lena Hill of Arp; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and James Moore and Charlene and Gene Hancock all of Arp; a brother, Marvin Hill of Osseo, Minnesota; two sisters, Ruth Crapser of Prinston, Minnesota and Vivian Mathison of Malica, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Tina Smyers, Angela Jackson, Christie English, Dora Wiggins, William Moore, and Edythe Richardson; twelve great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Bill Griffin, Jack Lacy, Phil Russell, Jim Williamson, Sammy Parker, and Lindsey Marshall. Visitation will be Friday, May 22, from 5:00 until 7:00 at the funeral home. The family would like to express a special Thank You to Heart To Heart Hospice of Tyler. In leu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice or Heart To Heart Hospice, 1402 Rice Rd, Suite 100, Tyler, Texas 75703.
