Obituary of Gerald Moore

Services for Jerry Moore will be held at Arp Emmanuel Baptist Church at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 6th with Steve Long and Milton Gardner officiating. Gerald Lee Moore went home to our heavenly Father April 2, 2006. Gerald, known by everyone as Jerry, graduated from Arp High School in 1947. He attended Kilgore College and received his math degree from East Texas State at Commerce. In 1950, he enlisted in the US Air Force to serve his country during the Korean War. Jerry later attended The University of Houston and earned a degree in electrical engineering. His career spanned several decades as he worked to make gas pipelines more efficient and improve safety equipment across the United States. Jerry was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on October 28, 1930. Being only a few weeks old, Jerry came to East Texas during the oil boom with his parents. He moved back to Arp in 1968, where he and Katie raised their daughters on the family farm. Jerry enjoyed his career, but nothing compares to the love he had for his family. Together they grew crops, raised cattle, mentored youth groups and hosted engineers from our country and even from China. Jerry relaxed with his loved ones at the beach, or at a good fishing hole; but most of the time playing dominos with his daughters. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, John Lewis and Mary Elizabeth Moore of Arp and a daughter, Jerri Lynn Bitar. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Katie M. Moore, and four daughters and their husbands, Theresa and Donnie Jones of Arp, Becky and Allan Orr of Lake Jackson, Mary and Clifton Mire of Chandler and Jonnie and Hubert Buford of St. Martinville, Louisiana. Grandchildren are John Reuben Jones, David Micah Jones, Jennifer Buford, Donnie Ray Jones, Jr. Nadia Bitar, Cliff Mire III, Tara Jones, Hayley Orr, Meagan Orr and Cheree' Mire. His cousins are Charlotte and Jim Smith of Avon, Indiana, Shirley and Byron Butrum of Englewood, Colorado, and Mary Ellen Bradshaw of Houston, Texas, and their children. Visitation is at Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home in Overton on Wednesday from 7pm-9pm. Pallbearers are Gene Romero, Donnie Romero, Donnie Jones, Sr., Clifton Mire, Jr., Hubert Buford and Allan Orr. Honorary pallbearers are Red Landry, Dr. Joey Landry, Buddy "Shot" Grandstaff, Mike Alsbury, and James 'Skinny' Parker. Interment is at Pinecrest Cemetery in Troup, Texas.
