Obituary of M.K. Maris

Services for M.K. Maris, 87, Troup are scheduled for 11:00 am, Thursday, March 16, at the First United Methodist Church, Troup, with the Reverend Mike Cline officiating. Burial will be in the Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup. Mr. Maris died Monday, March 13, in Tyler. He was born March 11, 1919 in Troup to the late Mertis K. and Annie Mae Smith Maris. He was a graduate of Troup High School. Mr. Maris was a veteran of World War II, flying 50 B-17 missions in Europe serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Troup. Mr. Maris was employed by G.E./Trane from 1957 until his retirement in 1984. He married Vernoy O'Neal December 24, 1947. She preceded him in death March 31, 2000. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Vera Nesbitt, Lurty Rogers, and Birmah Doran and four brothers, Buster Maris, Jugg Maris, Malcolm Maris, and Jerry Maris. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Suzann Maris and Hal and Jane Maris, all of Tyler; four grandchildren and their spouses, Leah and Alan Long, Andrea and Thomas Pemberton, Brent and Paula Maris, and Kenneth and Julie Maris; and a great-grandson, Brayden Maris. Pallbearers will be Mike Johnson, Pete Ledford, J. C. Trahan, Jim Carlyle, Rex Worl, Duane Swinney, Willie Dave Wilkinson, and Merle Duty. Honorary Pallbearers will be The Friendship Sunday School Class of the First United Methodist Church, Max and Kay Jarvis, Jerry Lacy, Claud Obar, and C.A. Wilkinson. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Wednesday, March 15.
