Obituary of H.S. ‘Boots’ Musslewhite
Services for H.S. 'Boots' Musslewhite, Sr, 89, Troup, are scheduled for 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 21, at the Cottle Funeral Home Chapel, Troup, with the Reverend Mike Jeter officiating. Burial will be in the Union Grove Cemetery, near Troup.
Mr. Musslewhite died Thursday, March 19, 2009, at his residence. He was born December 18, 1919, in Cherokee County to the late Charlie and Ida Hampton Musslewhite.
From 1938 until 1941, he served in the last mounted U.S. Army Calvary unit and served four years in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Musslewhite worked in the East Texas Oil Field for 32 years and retired from the Atlantic Richfield Company. He served on the Troup City Council for several years and served as Mayor of Troup for one term.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Troup and the Laney-Gambrell American Legion Post #418, Troup.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, H.S. 'Sammy' Musslewhite, Jr., two daughters, Martha Woodliff and an infant daughter; two granddaughters, Jo Lynn Musslewhite and Mary Ann Kerr; and six brothers.
He married Agnes Shuttlesworth, August 25, 1943, in Tyler.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Agnes Shuttlesworth Musslewhite, Troup; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joe and Peggy Musslewhite and Wilmer Musslewhite all of Troup; a daughter, Mary Kerr, Troup; three granddaughters; a grandson; four great-grandsons, and three great-granddaughters; a son-in-law, George Woodliff; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Ashby, Billy Melton, Larry Searcy, Joe Layne, Wayne Musslewhite, and Russell Wyatt.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Don Martin and Jonathan Woodliff.
The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Friday, March 20.
