Obituary of Jimmie Bonner
Funeral services for Jimmie Inez Bonner, 87, Omen, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 7 in the First United Methodist Church, Arp with the Reverend Kay Alewine and Reverend Rick Tate officiating. Burial will be in the Elkins cemetery under direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
Mrs. Bonner died Saturday, March 4, 2006 at her residence. She was born April 29, 1918 in Corine to the late Charlie and Jessie Horton Mixon.
Jimmie had a gentle and humble spirit and was beloved by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Reverend Billie B. Bonner. She had a very deep abiding faith in God and served with her husband at the United Methodist pastorates in Homer, Timpson Circuit, Winfield Circuit, Karnack, China, Alta Loma, St. John's, Jacksonville, Fairfield, Malakoff, Frankston, and Grapeland.
She was Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #377, Jacksonville from 1978 to1979, and she was Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #421, Troup from 1991 to 1992.
She is survived by her son, Billie Bryan Bonner, Omen; a daughter and son-in-law, Laquita and Jim Showen, Tyler; two sisters and a brother, Ethel Terry, Jacksonville, Joyce Scogins of Argyle, and Vaughan Mixon, Tyler; three grandchildren and their spouses, Kennon and Sylvia Showen, Richmond, Virginia, Kysia and Chris Thornton, Springdale, Arkansas, and Keith and Tanya Showen, Omen; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jack Lacy, Kenneth Alewine, Ernie Maddox, Jim Williamson, John Finley, and Bill Griffin.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
